King George County Public Schools has adopted a policy regarding restraint and seclusion. Our staff is trained in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention®. The guiding philosophy of the program is to provide for the care, welfare, safety, and security for everyone involved in a crisis situation. This philosophy, when paired with an understanding of effective communication and human physiology, establishes the program’s solid foundation. CPI’s proven strategies give educators the skills to safely and effectively respond to anxious, hostile, or violent behavior while balancing the responsibilities of care. The emphasis of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training is on using physical restraint only as a last resort and focuses on preventive techniques and verbal de-escalation.
