Descriptions of No Child Left Behind
Sanctions:
Year 1 -
Public School Choice (PSC) - Parents may request that their child
transfer to a school that is not in school improvement
Year 2 -
Supplemental Educational Services (SES) - Free tutoring services where
the tutor pupil ratio is 1:1 (one tutor per student) or 1:5 ( one tutor
for up to 5 students)
Year 3 -
Corrective Actions - Division must select at least one of the following:
replace school staff relevant to the failure, adopt a new curriculum,
decrease management authority in the school, appoint outside experts to
advise the school, extend school year or school day, restructure
internal organization of the school, and continue to offer PSC and SES
Year 4 -
Plan for Alternative Governance - Division must plan for at least one of
the following: reopen the school as a charter school, replace all or
most of school staff relevant to failure to make AYP, contract with
outside entity to operate school, institute other significant governance
and staffing changes that will likely impact what is causing the school
to remain in school improvement, and continue to implement corrective
action, PSC and SES
Year 5 and beyond -
Implement Alternative Governance and continue to implement corrective
action, PSC, and SES
