Nominations for 2017 SOL Item & Test Review Committees due March 3

VDOE Office of Assessment Development is seeking nominations for the 2017 SOL Item and Test Review Committees. All individuals who wish to serve on the committees, including those who have previously served, must submit an online application through the Assessment Committee Application Processing System. Completed applications are due by March 3. See Superintendent's Memo 013-17 for committee dates, requirements and application link.

Public Hearing for King George County School's 2017-18 projected revenue and funding requests will take place at the School Board Office 1st floor conference room, Thursday, February 23 @ 5:30 pm. Public comments from KGCS staff as well as the King George community are welcome.

RCC General Scholarship Application Deadline Extended

RCC has close to 100 scholarships totaling over $400,000 that can be used in addition to federal and state financial aid or used alone to offset the cost of tuition, fees, and books. The deadline to apply has been extended from today to Wednesday, February 22 at 11:59 pm. We have one easy, on-line scholarship application (www.rappahannock.edu/foundation/scholarships) that your students can complete in 30 minutes or less. The information provided in the application will match the student to all of the scholarships for which he or she qualifies.

Fredericksburg Regional Teacher Job Fair, Saturday, April 29 @ Stafford High School from 8am-12pm. Meet with representatives from participating school divisions. Schedule interviews based on anticipated needs. School districts will not be interviewing for administrative or other positions. Special Needs Family Dance, Feb. 26

The King George Parks and Rec is hosting a Special Needs Family Dance at the King George Citizen's Center, Sunday, February 26 from 1-3pm. Cost is $20 per family. Children with disabilities and their families can come enjoy an afternoon of fun and dance. Participants will socialize and families will have an opportunity to network with others. Refreshments included. For more information, call King George Parks and Rec @ 540-775-4386.

Board of Education Approves 2017 English Standards of Learning

On January 26, 2017, the Board of Education approved the 2017 English Standards of Learning. The approved SOL are the first to be revised using the guidelines of the Profile of a Virginia Graduate. The Profile, developed by the Board of Education, describes knowledge, skills, and experiences students should attain during their K-12 education to make them "life-ready." The goals of the English SOL, teaching students to read, write, research and communicate, align with the Profile of a Virginia Graduate and include the foundational skills of critical thinking, creative thinking, collaboration, communication, and citizenship.
