May 24 and 25 are early release days for students in King George County Schools. The last day of school for students is Thursday, May 25. Last day of school for teaching staff is Friday, May 26. We wish all families a safe and happy summer!

Variance Requests Due June 9

Applications for variance requests are due by June 9, 2017. Send completed variance forms to the school principal you are requesting the variance for. Forms can be found on the KGCS website under the Student & Family Services tab.

Enlistee Recognition Ceremony June 3

Know of a high school senior graduating in the spring and has enlisted in the armed forces? They are invited to attend the prestigious Annual Enlistee Recognition Ceremony in their honor, June 3 at the UMW Dodd Auditorium from 2-4:30pm. The King George Education Foundation invites you to attend the third annual "Evening of Excellence," Monday, May 15 at 6pm at the UMW Dahlgren Campus.  This evening recognizes and celebrates outstanding Partners in Education, PTA Outstanding Educators of the Year, KGCS division Teachers of the Year, KGCS Support Staff, Innovation Grant Award Recipients and KGEF donors. It is an exciting evening to showcase excellence throughout the division!

Enjoy an evening of fine arts at King George High School, Tuesday, May 9. Come set your eyes on hundreds of amazing pieces of art by students in grades 9-12 from 4-6 pm at the KGHS annual Art Show. Their imagination, creativity and skill will captivate you. Then, come listen to the sounds of merry melodies with the Countywide Band Concert from 6-8pm in the KGHS auditorium.

The KGHS Theatre Department will present its production of the musical Shrek, May 3-6 at 7pm. The Theater with a Purpose will once again showcase the talent of KGHS students and leave you smiling! Tickets are $10 (6 & under free). Dinner is available at 5:30 pm for an additional $5. This is a great evening you won’t want to miss!

Immerse yourself in the playful side of math at the 2017 Math Festival on Saturday, April 22, located at the Washington DC Convention Center. Learn how big math can get, from the power of symmetry in shaping the universe to the outer reaches of black holes-then zero in on your own life, from the mathematics of eyesight to the DNA in your cells! This event is free and open to the public.

The Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) has released its 21st annual VSBA Showcases for Success directory, highlighting successful K-12 programs in Virginia’s public schools. King George County Public Schools is one of 56 school divisions from across the Commonwealth that has programs featured in the directory. 
The three featured programs from KGCS are:
1) College Boot Camp
2) No Kid Hungry Initiatives
3) Road to School Desegregation Video Partnership
