Dear Sealston Family:
Welcome all to the 2011-2012 school year!
We are so excited to have our students back with us!
This year will bring hard work for all of us, but the rewards will be
great.
We have some changes you should know about.
Our administrative team has changed.
Ms. Fetterolf has moved to be an assistant principal at King George
Middle School. Mrs. Cynthia
Malyevac will now serve as Sealston’s new Assistant Principal.
As principal, I look forward to working with her to continue to keep
our school a great place for all students.
We have some new staff in the classrooms as well:
Sixth grade: Karen Aliff,
Michelle Zemore, Anna VanTheemsche and Matt Johnston.
Fifth grade: Jason Hixson
Second grade: Chelsea Whitley
ITL: Tracy Ducar
Reading Coach: Tesa Standish
Special Education Teachers: Gina
Mason and Andrew Slater.
Please take the time to familiarize yourself with the new faces at our
school
Our schedule has changed slightly; our building will open at 8:30
a.m. for all students. Our tardy
bell will ring at 8:50 a.m. This
means that the students have twenty minutes to get to their rooms and be in
their seats by 8:50 a.m.to avoid being marked as tardy.
A pattern of late arrivals could result in a required parent
conference with the principal and/or the attendance officer for the school
system. Habits started early
will impact children later in life, so it is crucial we start to form
positive habits of regular, timely school attendance in the early years.
While Sealston Elementary School did not make AYP (Adequate Yearly
Progress) as established by NCLB (No Child Left Behind.), we were successful
on 27 of 29 benchmarks. With
your support, we are confident that we can work together to help our
students excel and be the best students they can be.
I encourage all parents to be active participants in the school and
in their child’s education. If
we can assist you in any way, please do not hesitate to contact us.
I look forward to working with you to make this our most successful school
year yet!
Sincerely,
