Computer/Technology skills are essential components of every student’s education. In order to maximize opportunities for students
to acquire necessary skills for academic success, the teaching of these skills should be the shared responsibility of teachers in all disciplines.
Skills that students should acquire by the end of Kindergarten:C/T5.2 The student will develop basic technology skills. C/T5.3 The student will process, store, retrieve, and transmit electronic information.
• The student will retrieve information using search strategies from:
o CD-ROM
• The student will observe demonstrations during group activities of single word search strategies to retrieve
information from electronic sources.
• The student will observe demonstrations during group activities of search strategies to store retrieved
information from electronic sources.
• Students will be aware of and understand:
o Internet (telecommunications)
o “Netiquette”—Refer to KGCS guideline for acceptable use policy.
C/T5.4 The student will communicate through application software.
• Word Processing:
o The student will access and open a word processing program
o The student will enter text with assistance.
• Have students create sentences using language vocabulary
• Encourage creative writing of stories.
• Have students practice informal typing practice.
C/T12.1 Identify new and emerging technologies.
• The student will observe demonstrations during group activities of different types of technologies used in their environment.
o Examples: Leap Pad, Twist and Shout, Alpha Smart, phonic keyboard, calculator, etc.
