Technology Standards for
Instructional Personnel
You can check your current status
online at any time. The status check will let you know what portions
you have met and what you still need to complete. The status check is only
available from a computer inside the KGCS network. To check your current status

Newly hired Personnel
All teachers and administrators hired must
complete the portfolio within three months of their first year of employment,
unless you meet on of the following criteria. If you can answer
"YES" to any of these, you are not required to complete the Technology
Portfolio.

I have graduated from a Virginia college or university
after 1998
-
I have a "Technology Standards Met"
statement on my Virginia Teaching License
-
I have a certificate of completion from
another Virginia county school system (you must provide a copy)
Portfolio documents must be submitted both in the
user's H:\ drive
and hardcopy to the Supervisor of Technology or designee within three months of
their first year of employment.
Instructional personnel will use Windows and Microsoft Office to complete the
portfolio. The Portfolio must contain the following nine skills and items
within each skill.
1. Word Processing

The document must include the following
elements:

Various line spacing
-
Header or footer that contains page numbers or file names and dates of
creation.

Print out of the document

Save the files in your word processing folder

Database (Access)

A database of student information to include a
minimum of five fields and five records. Create a query using criteria of
your choice and provide a printout
of:
1. a report showing the entire database and 2. a query
report with the criteria of your choice that is sorted
alphabetically.
4.
Spreadsheets (Excel)
(See Standards 4, 5, 6)
Create a basic spreadsheet with rows, columns and
headings which can be used to record class or other professional information.
The spreadsheet must contain at least 30 cells which contain text and data. At
least 2 formulas must compute basic mathematical computations of data. Create 1
graph using the data contained in your spreadsheet.
5. Multimedia/Hypermedia Presentations (PowerPoint)

A multimedia presentation that instructs students in
a content objective including minimum of five slides, two graphics, 1 chart, and
transition effects.

Website
(See Standards 4, 5, 7)
Create a website or blog that contain
the following elements: image(s), hyperlinks to KGCS website, local school,
e-mail address & any course specifics such as grading scale, homework
policy, test and quiz dates resource links, your schedule.
7.
Communications (Web/
Software Reviews)
(See Standards 4, 5, 6)
Complete the information on the review forms
including a paragraph describing why this software or web site would or would
not be useful to you in classroom instruction. Save the review(s) as a MS Word
document using your login as the file name and e-mail the review form(s) as an
attachment to teachtech@kgcs.k12.va.us. .
8.
Technology Terminology

Complete the multiple-choice assessment on
terminology, hardware, software and score at least 80%.

link on the instruction page.
This test can be taken as
many times as necessary to meet the 80 percent requirement. Include a printout
of your assessment results.
9.
Acceptable use Policy and Web
Guidelines (See Standard 8)
Be familiar with the King George County Public
Schools
Acceptable Computer
Use Policy (AUP) for professional and classroom use. Complete the true
and false assessment and score at least 80%.

This test can be taken as
many times as necessary to achieve the 80 percent requirement. Include a
printout of your assessment results.

When you are completed with the above assessments,
fill out the
Portfolio Check List sheet
and be sure to follow the
format for
submission procedures.
