About Us

King George County Schools (KGCS) serves the students of King George County, Virginia, a historic riverside community. King George is located about 60 miles from Washington, D.C. and roughly 65 miles from Richmond, Virginia’s capital. The area offers the convenience of nearby cities while maintaining the charm and close-knit feel of a small town community.

King George County is bordered by the Potomac River to the north, the Rappahannock River to the south, Stafford County to the west, and Westmoreland County to the east. The county’s natural beauty, deep history, and strong sense of community create a setting where families and students can thrive.

KGCS provides a high-quality, comprehensive education for students in preschool through twelfth grade across five public schools: three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. The division serves approximately 4,500 students and partners closely with families, local organizations, and the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division, which is a major part of the community.

Our schools are dedicated to academic excellence, student well-being, and preparing every learner for success after graduation. We combine strong instructional programs with meaningful opportunities in career and technical education, the arts, athletics, and community service so that each student can develop their talents, build confidence, and contribute positively to society.
