School transitions can be one of the most stressful parts of a PCS for families. Use this quick checklist developed by MCEC to help you keep the transition as smooth as possible.

This resources provides a list of questions parents should ask before they move and after they arrive at their new school. 

 mil If you are PCSing with an exceptional family member (EFM), this checklist developed by PEATC may be helpful to you. Not all of the items in the checklist will apply to all PCSing families.

Check out PEATC’s Digital Portfolio for Military Families, which provides service members with the ability to keep their exceptional family member’s paperwork in a digital, portable format. It organizes personal, educational, medical, legal, and military information and documentation for quick and easy access and can eliminate the need to move paperwork from one duty station to another.

Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) Military Families Resource Page

We welcome all military families to Virginia and look forward to a successful school year. PEATC

The Parent Educational Advocacy Training Center (PEATC) supports Virginia’s military families by providing Virginia-specific information on special education and state disability services through individual consults, workshops, webinars, and statewide training. PEATC’s services to families are free and confidential.

MilitaryOneSource

Military OneSource is a free service provided by the Department of Defense (DoD) to active duty service members and families with information on deployment, reunion, relationships, grief, spouse employment and education, parenting, and more.

Tutor.com for Military

Tutor.com for U.S. Military Families, funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, provides on-demand, online tutoring and homework help with live tutors available 24/7 - at no cost to active duty service members and their eligible dependents.

Blue Star Families Association

Blue Star Families was founded by military spouses in 2009 to empower families to thrive as they serve by connecting them with their civilian neighbors - people and organizations - to create strong communities of support.

Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission (MIC3)

The Interstate Commission was developed to establish a uniform standard that eases the state-to-state transition of military families as children transfer from one state to another due to military parent's frequent reassignments. The MIC3 website offers numerous resources including one page reference documents and training modules.

Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC)

MCEC's mission is to ensure inclusive, quality educational experiences for all military children affected by mobility, family separation, and transition. MCEC offers numerous resources for parents, information about leadership camps and scholarships, and extensive training for educators about the needs of military-connected students.
