King George Graduation Rate Highest in Region 3

The majority of the Fredericksburg region’s high schools posted better graduation rates this year than the state as a whole, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

Just six of 22 local high schools—three in Spotsylvania County, and one each in Caroline County, Colonial Beach and Fredericksburg—reported on-time graduation rates that fell below the state average of 91.6 percent.

The education department on Monday released the rates, which amount to the percentage of 2018 graduates who earned diplomas after four years of high school. Statewide, the graduation rate improved by half a percentage point, equating to 187 fewer dropouts than last year. Most school systems in the Fredericksburg region improved over last year, too.
