Our goal is to provide a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for all students, staff, and visitors throughout King George County Schools.
Lead Testing
The Maintenance Department's office is responsible for maintaining drinking water devices at all of our facilities and ensuring the water supplied from those devices meet federal and state standards. In accordance with the recently passed regulations from the state of Virginia, this office will implement a comprehensive lead testing program which will meet the requirement of the regulations. Our Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the execution of this program. This program will test the primary drinking water devices at all King George County School sites. Initially, we will test schools that were constructed before 1986 and then begin working on testing the remaining school buildings. The primary purpose of testing each water device is to ensure that each device is supplying water that is below the 15 parts per billion (ppb) action level. Any device with a sample result greater than 15 ppb will initiate a Corrective Action Plan to reduce the concentrations below the action level of 15 ppb. The action plan include the following steps:
- Replacing Contaminated Water Devices
- Replacing Water Piping
- Shut Down of Water Device
King George County Schools has developed a rotating schedule for testing to comply with the recently adopted Virginia Regulation.
AHERA Reporting
In compliance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), King George County Schools performed inspections our facilities to identify all asbestos containing building materials. The results of the original inspection findings and Asbestos Management Plans are on file with the Operations and Maintenance Department.
The EPA requires King George County Schools to perform surveillance of the asbestos materials every six months and is continually inspected by work environment every 3 years.
