Relocating can be especially challenging for military families who often move frequently and, at times, with limited notice. To support these families, the Code of Virginia §22.1-3 (B)(3) permits school enrollment in the division of the child’s intended residence prior to relocation.

The Parent Educational Advocacy Training Center (PEATC) supports Virginia’s military families by providing Virginia-specific information on special education and state disability services through individual consults, workshops, webinars, and statewide training. PEATC’s services to families are free and confidential.

Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission (MIC3)

The Interstate Commission was developed to establish a uniform standard that eases the state-to-state transition of military families as children transfer from one state to another due to military parent's frequent reassignments. MCEC's mission is to ensure inclusive, quality educational experiences for all military children affected by mobility, family separation, and transition.
