Students presenting book project

Third grade students at Sealston participated in a Third Grade Caldecott Award Book Project under the leadership of library media specialist, Brittany Orolin. The Caldecott Award is given annually to an outstanding picture book by the American Library Association. Third grade students at Sealston learned about the Caldecott Award by first reading The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend (Winner of the 2015 Caldecott Medal).
For nine weeks, students worked alone or in groups to write and illustrate their own eight page book during library specials. This process involved planning, drafting, composing and designing a final draft with illustrations and a cover. As a culminating activity, third grade classes conducted their own Caldecott voting process to determine the top three picture books in the third grade. Winners received money to spend in the school’s book fair.  Read the full article....
