King George County Public Schools Names New Superintendent

King George, VA – Dr. Jesse Boyd was announced as the next superintendent of King George County Public Schools at last night’s school board meeting. His new position will be effective January 1, 2023.  Dr. Boyd has been serving as the deputy superintendent of the school division since January 2022. He previously served as principal of King George High School for seven years and has 21 years of experience in education working in multiple Virginia School divisions as a principal, special education department chair, and special education teacher.

"I'd like to thank our School Board for conducting a thorough superintendent search process and entrusting me with this significant responsibility,” said Dr. Boyd.  “It is an honor and privilege to be selected as superintendent of King George County Schools. To serve the children and families in the community I call home gives me great joy.  I look forward to supporting our amazing educators as we can forge a bond with our families that allows our children to envision future success, achieve what was once thought impossible, and thrive no matter the obstacles."

Carrie Gonzalez, chair of the King George County School Board, believes Dr. Boyd will be a great fit for the division. “Dr. Boyd has proven himself to be a committed leader; committed to public education and to the students and community of King George County.  I couldn’t be prouder to be a member of the board who has selected this outstanding educational leader and administrator to serve as Superintendent of our schools.”

Dr. Boyd earned his Doctor of Education in educational leadership from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Administrative Endorsement in School Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia, a Master of Special Education from the University of Virginia, and a Bachelor of Science in geography from Colgate University. In 2019, Dr. Boyd was named a Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals Outstanding Principal of the Year.

He is married to Jenelle Boyd and they have three children:  Avery (14), Peyton (12), and Dawson (10).

The Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) assisted the school board with the superintendent search process.
