The Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School provides an educational option for high-ability and gifted students interested in math, science, and technology.  Sophomores, juniors, and seniors from fourteen participating school divisions in the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck regions in Virginia attend the Governor’s School during the morning at one of three sites: RCC-Glenns Campus, RCC-Warsaw Campus, or Bowling Green in Caroline County.   King George County Students attend the Bowling Green site.   Students will ride a bus to the site during blocks one and two of their schedule.   Students will attend classes at King George High School during blocks three and four.

CBGS is a demanding program that supplements your home high school, by offering mathematics and science classes, along with a rich outdoor educational component. You need not think you will major in math or science in college to come to CBGS, but it is important to realize you will be deeply immersed in these subjects while you are here. CBGS offers all classes as Dual Enrollment with RCC, thus you must prepare to work at the college level, at all times.

CALENDAR AND TRANSPORTATION       CBGS Calendar

The CBGS calendar does not align exactly to the King George County Schools calendar.   On days that CBGS is in session but KGCS is not, CBGS students are still expected to attend CBGS.  On days that CBGS is closed but KGCS is open, students are still expected to attend KGCS.    While these days are infrequent, they do happen.    Also, please make sure to pay attention to both Caroline County and King George County school closures due to inclement weather.   CBGS will follow decisions made by Caroline County Schools in regards to inclement weather late openings and closures.    If Caroline County has a late opening, your student will not report to CBGS.

Students will be provided transportation to the Bowling Green Campus every day that CBGS is operating on a regular schedule.    Students will be picked up at 7:30 at the King George High School main office entrance.    When a student arrives at King George High School, they should check in with the attendance secretary in the main office to let them know they have arrived at school.   Students will then ride the bus to the Bowling Green Campus for their CBGS classes.     They will then return to King George High School in time to attend their third and fourth block classes.  Students will check back in with the attendance secretary at KGHS upon their return.  Students may need to eat their lunch on the bus.
