Mathematics is a science of pattern and order, a way of thinking, communicating, and learning about the world. King George County Schools offer a variety of academic programming to meet the needs of our students. The goal of the mathematics program in King George County is to provide an environment for all students to actively build an understanding of mathematics as they also learn to value mathematics and develop confidence in their ability to learn and do mathematics in purposeful ways. Successful learning involves investigating, verifying, exploring, explaining, discovering, conjecturing, describing, reasoning, and sense-making. Students will be given opportunities to formulate, represent, and solve mathematical problems using appropriate strategies while developing reasoning skills to justify their solutions as they work toward mathematical proficiency. Instruction is guided by the Virginia Mathematics Standards of Learning.
