Students will be scheduled for standardized testing and an interview with a portfolio review upon receipt of a completed application.  These will occur between January and March.  Students will be notified of the time and place for each of these activities.

A committee will evaluate completed applications and supporting materials using a multi-criteria approach, which includes the following: achievement and ability test scores, grades; teacher recommendations; and a portfolio presented during an interview.  The identification committee will rank students based on their total points on the Candidate Profile Sheet.  CGS accepts a maximum of twenty qualified students per-grade level at the King George High School CGS Site.  A letter of the decision will be sent out by the middle of March to all applicants who have completed the application process.

In addition to this coursework, all students in CGS will participate in a yearlong research culminating project.

All students take Honors Algebra 2 regardless of what math they take in 8th Grade.  If a student only took Algebra I in 8th Grade, they will take Honors Geometry/Trigonometry in 10th Grade at CGS.  Students who took Geometry in 8th Grade will take Honors Math Analysis in 10th Grade at CGS.
Much is expected of The Commonwealth Governor’s School students. The curriculum is demanding and participants work closely with other highly motivated students in King George, Spotsylvania, Stafford, and Caroline counties.  The faculty and staff of The Commonwealth Governor’s School are committed to providing their students with a challenging and exciting high school program.
