Substitute Teacher Applicants Must:

• Be 18 years of age or older for elementary positions
• Be 21 years of age or older for all other positions
• Possess good moral character
• Hold a high school diploma or have passed a high school equivalency examination approved by the Board of Education
• Attend an orientation session regarding school policies and procedures
• Complete criminal and child abuse background checks prior to employment
• Apply to a vacancy announcement that is posted on the division website

Substitute teachers are employed and paid on a per diem basis. Substitute teachers are not employed under contract with the school board. The per diem pay is differentiated based on education.

High School Diploma/GED - $100.00
Associates Degree - $105.00
Bachelors, Master's or Doctorate - $120.00

Substitute Paraprofessional Daily Rate- $100.00

Long Term Assignment Daily Rates

High School Diploma/Associates - $158.00
Bachelors/Master's/Doctorate - $186.00
Licensed Teacher (Current VA License) - $211.00
